First Nations Health Authority
The First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) offers free counselling services to First Nations people in BC, in recognition of the severe and multiple forms of the trauma that Indigenous people have experienced in Canada and which continue to this day. The counselling may be related to the missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in Canada, to a residential school history in oneself or one’s family, to intergenerational trauma in general, to suicide or overdose, or to anything a First Nations person is struggling with in their daily life. In order to receive services, I must complete a brief form and submit it to Pacific Blue Cross for approval prior to initiating counselling. First Nations people born outside of BC but who move to BC are eligible if they register with the FNHA.
